[1:45] <Romster> is there any information on how the splitfiles blocks work it's really neat how for example requires 6 blocks to remake the 9 blocks and can reheal the other missing block I'm interested in how that is done.

[14:10] <Oggi> Hi, I've a problem with freenet. It's hellish slow
[14:10] <Oggi> I cannot use it
[14:11] <Oggi> I want to use it through the network of my university
[14:11] <greycat> how slow exactly?
[14:12] <Oggi> I've waited half an hour only to load the "Freedom Engine" Site index
[14:12] <Oggi> My university is using a NAT
[14:12] <Oggi> but i've no idea how to configure my freenet exactly
[14:13] * setre (~jussi@h97n2fls32o292.telia.com) Quit (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
[14:13] <greycat> being inside a NAT that you don't control is going to make performance very, very bad. there's nothing you can do about it except get the NAT to forward a port to you, or wait for the redesigned freenet 0.7 (due some time this century)
[14:14] * setre (~jussi@h97n2fls32o292.telia.com) has joined #freenet
[14:15] <Oggi> hm, thats bad
[14:15] <Oggi> they will never forward a port to me
[14:16] <Oggi> Perhaps, I can connect to a proxy in the "free internet" and the proxy is connecting to freenet?
[14:19] * Oggi (~bernhard@nat-ph3-wh.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de) has left #freenet
[14:24] <toad_> :|
[14:25] <toad_> the unfortunate bottom line is that nodes must be able to contribute
[14:25] <toad_> and this is very hard if they are firewalled so they can't receive connections
[14:25] <toad_> it connects with the LRU thing
[14:25] * Skyddsman (Skyddsman@pool-71-112-122-18.sttlwa.dsl-w.verizon.net) has joined #freenet
[14:25] <toad_> if the LRU algorithm isn't allowed to work.. you've got problems. we can bypass firewalls by providing ways for outside nodes to get nodes behind a nat to connect outwards... but that's a lot of work
[14:26] <toad_> so we just go for UDP to deal with the bulk of the problem, which is the domestic NATs
[14:26] <toad_> hi Skyddsman
[14:30] <toad_> http://amphibian.dyndns.org/more-whacky-sims.png
